WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW WHEN CALLING A MOVER

When it comes time to call moving companies to inquire about quotes, do you ever wonder if you're asking the right questions? Or maybe you don't know what questions to ask? I mean what else could there be right? "Can you move my things from point A to point B on the date that I need and are you a reasonable price?"

Though it may seem that simple to some of you, the reality is that there is a lot more to receiving a moving quote (that is going to be the most accurate) than you would assume.

So let's walk through what it is that you need to know when calling a potential moving company for the most accurate quote.

1) Date

Always make sure that you have a date in mind before calling a moving company to schedule a move. Now we understand that it may be stressful to try and decide a date that is going to work best for you and your family. Or there are some things that are really out of your hands preventing you from knowing one. That's okay! Knowing an anticipated date in which you need to be out of your current home by is at least somewhere to start for the movers to block out some potential dates around that time.

2) Address

Make sure that you are prepared to provide the moving company with a specific address to the locations you wish them to go to. That includes storage units, homes, apartment buildings, etc. Providing exact addresses help calculate the travel time and distance more efficiently, and will reduce any surprises at the time of signing the final invoice.

3) Type of Service

Believe it or not most moving companies offer a variety of different services. Knowing what it is that you are shopping around for is important. Examples of the different type of services include packing, loading, unloading, storage, and of course residential, and for some commercial moves. Depending on the type of service you are looking for, it may adjust hourly rates and minimums for some businesses.

4) Number of Boxes

We understand that not everything is going to packed in to box outside of your bigger furniture items. We also understand that you may have no idea how to even calculate the number of boxes you may have. Thats perfectly okay! The best we could ever ask for is a rough estimate of what you think you may need and or have. Again knowing this information is going to help determine the number of guys, hours, and a more accurate estimate.

5) Itemized Inventory List

Providing an inventory list is going to help your movers tremendously when it comes to preparing a quote for you. Being able to provide a list is also what is going to help create the most accurate estimate based on your needs.

There is so much information that an inventory list can provide to the moving company. Information such as the total weight of the move, the items in which the movers will be moving (considering there are items that moving companies are not allowed to move and are dangerous to move this becomes crucial). Along with being able to prepare for the upcoming move and provide the upmost amazing customer service possible.

Now when we say for you to provide an inventory list, we don't mean go through your house item by item and tell us how many bottles of cologne you will be packing, or the number of stuffed animals are around the house.

We understand that there are some things in which you may not be able to account for simply because it may get lost in the shuffle of things or because you didn't remember it. When asking for an itemized list we are looking for all the larger items and if possible, what rooms we will be grabbing them from.

Making sure that you have as much information as possible to provide your moving company is going to help tremendously at the end.
